ASPEN FORUM LEAD SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PARTNER
Dear AccessCircles Members,
Welcome to Aspen! I am delighted to share this forum with you.
I am the Executive Director of the Mary Horrigan Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School (Connors Center). The Connors Center is a Premier Partner of AccessCircles Health and Wellness Forums and the Lead Scientific Research Partner of the AccessCircles Collaborative for Women’s Health Research. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of getting to know Carolee and Lynn. We share a bold vision for improving the health of women and a commitment to joining forces to accelerate scientific discovery for the benefit of all women.
The Connors Center is a leading force in advancing women’s health, with a rich history and strong foundation of women’s health and sex differences discovery, clinical care, and advocacy for equity in women’s health. The Center’s primary activities focus on igniting change in women’s health by catalyzing research, bolstering knowledge, and transforming education for the next generation of physicians. We convene a wealth of Harvard Medical School faculty who are conducting groundbreaking research in sex and gender biology, expert clinicians who lead the field of women’s health care, and distinguished educators who are advancing sex- and gender-informed curricula for physicians in training. Our research priorities include sex-specific testing of early-stage therapeutics, systems-biology-based investigations, and interdisciplinary collaborations for disease-based research in conditions that are exclusive, predominate, or differential in women. The vast majority of these areas are under-resourced, and shockingly little is known about the fundamental impact that sex has on disease. Never has the need for this work been more urgent.
Carolee and I look forward to future collaborations between AccessCircles and the Connors Center. In fall 2018 we will welcome AccessCircles members to the Boston area for a program with the Connors Center (date to be announced shortly). And please make sure to save the date for our next Connors Center Women’s Health Luncheon Program in Boston on May 10, 2019.
I look forward to our conversations at the AccessCircles retreats and beyond.
